Kim Simmonds is a MAREIA member and long-standing buy and hold real estate investor. Kim’s passion for real estate began in college when, as a freshman, she convinced her parents to buy her first investment property. Before “house hacking” was a thing, Kim lived in the property and rented the other rooms to college students. Seeing this to be a lucrative endeavor, Kim was eager to purchase a family member’s home in Washington DC. in the early 2000’s and has been a Housing Provider ever since.
Professionally, Kim had a longstanding career with The National Institutes of Health (NIH), where she oversaw global biomedical clinical research trials as a Senior Program Officer. She also contributed to several special initiatives such as the Combined Federal Campaign, agency representative for Congressional Lobbyists on aging, and a special commission EEOC Advisor for Dr. Anthony Fauci.
Kim retired from NIH in 2012 and continued pursuing her passion for both real estate investing and world travel. She continues to invest in DC and Maryland and has recently embarked on her first construction project. Kim spends much of her free time slowly making her way around the globe, having visited 24 states, 17 countries and 5 US Territories. Kim endeavors to visit all 7 continents and explore the 7 wonders of the world. When she is not globe trotting, Kim is the dedicated mother of two teenagers who keep her young and having fun.
